When you do a Windows Update, does it keep showing an available update for Security Essentials definitions? It did on mine and I kept getting the same error you get. Try going here:
http://www.microsoft.com/security/portal/Definitions/HowToMSE.aspx#MSE64bit
Even if you have a 32-bit version of Windows (there’s instructions for both). If you have Microsoft Security Essentials build 2.0.0375.0 or higher, make sure you download the Network Inspection System definition updates as well. Be sure to follow the instructions about running nis_full.exe as Administrator.
Personally, I downloaded both the Essentials definitions and the Network Inspection System definitions but you might fix the problem with just the Network Inspection System definitions. As of this post, the Essentials definitions are 67.6 MB and the other is only 3.9 MB. Best of luck to you.
